Legislation and policy

The urban and rural communities of NSW depend on soil and land maintained in good condition to:

  • provide high quality food, fibre and timber
  • protect the environment, urban and rural infrastructure, and recreational facilities
  • sustain prosperity gained from primary industries.

The Government of New South Wales recognises the need to protect and preserve this important, finite, natural resource with well informed, responsible management and planning.

The Department of Natural Resources supports the State Soils Policy and the Soil Conservation Act 1938 No. 10.
