General Characteristics:

  • Probably the most well known wetland bird.

  • Large beak and huge throat pouch that is usually pink although it varies in colour with age and season.

Diet:

  • Primarily fish and some crustaceans.

Habitat:

  • Can be found in fresh and salt water lakes, swamps and rivers.

Distribution in NSW:

  • Found throughout NSW.
